I posted this on my Facebook page today…
It’s always sobering to think of this morning in 2001. Getting ready for work and not really comprehending what I saw on tv (the 2nd plane hitting), going to work where everyone was just going through the motions waiting for word to close (from corporate in NYC, so it took a while before we got official word), sitting at home and watching the news for what felt like days (still not really having the ability to comprehend what happened). Hard to believe it’s been 15 years.
Sometimes I feel that those of us that watched the events unfold are in a similar position to those that lived through each world war – the death and destruction we saw in those days following the first plane hitting would make it seem that there has to be an end to death and destruction…but hate is still ending and destroying lives.
Each year on the DC trip, I take a photo of my favorite quote from MLK – Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
We live in a world where hate is the rhetoric of choice, from all sides and most disappointingly from the followers of Christ (hate was never His message).
My prayer is to raise Bubba to not spread hate, to be light in the world, and that he never has to have a morning like we did 15 years ago.
